Prompt: How Can I Become Enlightened?
The word says it all. Enlightenment is simply the process of releasing all of your heavy baggage- cleaning out your life both physically and mentally, so that you become lighter and love flows through you more easily.
The spaces currently occupied by the pain you are clinging to will then naturally become filled with more beautiful things that are more in alignment with the life you want to live. If that includes a major emphasis on spirituality, you will be in a much better place to receive spiritual information from the Universe once you’ve offloaded all of that extra weight.
It is as if most people are trying to move through life while dragging overturned freight trains. You are dragging behind yourself the pains of past love lost, of abuses and neglects, fears about money and jobs, expectations of your family, shame and embarrassment, and doubts about your own self worth. Your train is stuffed so completely with dead weight that you feel as if you can never arrive at the life you truly want. This is the opposite of enlightenment, it is burden.
Enlightenment begins with releasing those burdens.
The concept of minimalism is a very good place to start if you are new on this path. We don’t mean minimalism as a home decorating style or taken to the extreme of asceticism, not at all. The value of minimalism lies in the fact that it will prompt you to look at everything you own and understand what your burdens are more clearly, because you will be physically holding the representations of them.
For example, if you begin clearing your space, you may come across things that make you feel pangs of melancholy deep in your heart. These may be old love letters, school projects, or objects from deceased relatives. You may find things that make you feel guilty- expensive clothes you purchased but haven’t worn, paraphernalia from hobbies you never took up, old bills that have been piling up. Perhaps in your pantry there is food that you know makes you feel sick, but you eat it anyway. Every person will have a different collection of items that represent some part of their mental and emotional lives.
Clearing these slowly over time is an excellent mental practice in the art of letting go of your burdens. These objects that bring you pain show you exactly what it is in yourself that you need to release- what it filling that freight train you have been dragging behind you, and ultimately, what the freight train itself is made of.
Once you have made your way through your possessions (and yes, keeping what Sparks Joy is a great idea!), you can move to non-physical clutter: digital clutter, time clutter, mental and emotional clutter. The process of letting go applies to files on your phone and computer, hobbies, workload and to-do lists, unconscious habits, friends and family relationships, and the thoughts in your own head that are not healthy and satisfying for you.
Drop these burdens one at a time, gently, and progress upward in your own time. Each release clears out fresh new space and frees up energy that can then be invested in something wonderful you want to see in your future rather than something negative you are afraid of in your past. These beautiful things will come in, giving you more and more confidence that the process is working.
Eventually, when you have offloaded enough of the burdens that have been weighing you down, you are so light that information from the Universe flows freely through you unencumbered. In this state you can ask the Universe to send you the spiritual information you crave, and you can trust that when you receive that information, it is true. It is not necessarily a quick process and you can’t force it to go faster than it will go, but it is perfect, and it will go.
Enlightenment is releasing fear to make room for love, that it all. As you begin to release your burdens, you will naturally become more enlightened.
In Love,
The Universe
